At its core, QuickBooks® for Mac works essentially the same as QuickBooks Desktop, so there is no reason you can’t use the keyboard shortcuts you learned for Windows on your client’s Mac keyboard.
The QuickBooks app for Mac appears on your desktop just like any other Mac program, and you can keep it in the dock for quick access. Just click the icon to get started! Unlike the QuickBooks website, which signs you out after a period of inactivity, the QuickBooks app for Mac lets you stay signed in. Like, indefinitely.
- Clicking apps in the Dock is the primary method of launching them. The Dock also shows the status of applications—for example, whether they're running or needing your attention. Dock icons can also display application-specific information, such as how many unread email messages you have in Apple Mail, graphs showing memory resource usage.
- QuickLook enables a very quick preview of file contents by pressing the Spacebar. Note: This app does NOT work on Windows 10 S devices. Support Keys: Spacebar: Preview / Close Preview Esc: Close Preview Enter: Run & Close Preview Ctrl+Mouse Wheel: Zoom Images/Documents Mouse Wheel: Adjust Volume.
- The secret to using the keyboard shortcuts when you’re working on a Mac is to replace the Windows “ctrl” key with the Mac “command” key. Finding the Mac “command” key is easy. It always has the “command” symbol on it and it is always on either side of the space bar on the Mac keyboard: If you can’t find the “command” key.
- Another useful keyboard shortcut is “Command + Option + H + M”. This will hide all the application and minimize the active application, instantly de-clutter your desktop. Note: For an even faster solution, simply install and place the DisplayDesktop app in your dock. With a single click, all your application windows are gone.

Last, learn to keep your QuickBooks for Mac tidy by closing reports or whatever windows are open when you are done using them. Close just the open window or all your open windows at once. Too many open windows makes QuickBooks run slow and re-running cash-basis reports can be grueling. When you are done with your engagement, clean up your Workspace with these shortcuts:
